Foundations of game localization

The course will cover a general overview on what game localization consists of: different services included (translation, dubbing, subtitling, testing), working with available information and material, cultural considerations, quality requirements, developers vs. publishers, etc. We will see how games are often translated and how to make the most of various situations.

We will continue with practical exercises to understand important elements to take into account when translating (files, formats, platforms, genre, context information, available space, terminology, etc.) and to showcase some difficult situations and texts video game translators are regularly confronted with and how to (try to) work around them.
